Root) presumably as *lēpagi- “Besprecher”, O.Ir. līaig (disyllabic), gen. lego (*lī-ago) “physician, medicine man” (keinesfalls to Goth. lēkeis); Russ. lepetátь ‘stammeln, babble, chatter, lallen”, O.Bulg. lopotivъ ‘stammelnd, stotternd”, Russ. lopotátь “plätschern, rant, roister, klatschen”, with somewhat other meaning- turn Ser.-Cr. lepètati “flutter”. Perhaps auf ders. onomatopoeic words Schallvorstellung, but with a-vocalism, based on Gk. λαπίζω “benehme mich minxish, wanton”, λαπιστής “Aufschneider, swaggerer, bragger “ and λαῖλαψ “whirlwind” (as “heulend”).References: WP.
